What is MOFA Attestation and why is it done?

MOFA is shortened note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Foreign affairs is responsible for all kinds of Foreign Activities and Foreign relations. MOFA attestation means the stamp of Foreign Affairs. It declares the validity of the document for its usage in a foreign land. MOFA attestation is mainly done for UAE and other Gulf Countries.

MOFA attestation is done for multiple reasons:

  • Medical Facility Abroad
  • For higher Education abroad
  • For Permanent or rental residency
  • Obtaining a Visa (Especially for Gulf Countries)
  • Business transformations or trade process

What are the documents mandatory for MOFA Attestation:

  • A copy of the Passport
  • A copy of the Visa
  • Photographs
  • And, original Certificate from a validated Source

What is the Right procedure for MOFA Attestation?

  1. Notarized Attestation, Done by the regional Advocate in your locality
  2. Attestation from Human Resource and Development Ministry (HRD). Or from the SDM of your Division. Attestation from SDM is also recognized as State Level Attestation.
  3. Attestation from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on desired documents.
  4. Attestation from the Embassy of the concerned country
  5. MOFA Attestation, done by a selected secretariat that looks after foreign affairs.
